This week the community came together to welcome our live sound workshop, which was made possible through a joint venture with SoundGirls.Org and California Women’s Music Festival. This partnership provided a unique opportunity for girls 12 and older hands on experience setting up sound systems, learning how to make stage plots, input lists and so much more. (more…)

The ASCAP Expo

The ASCAP Expo is a National songwriting and composing conference founded in 2006 and just held the annual ASCAP Expo. The Expo includes workshops, one-on-one sessions, panels, Q & A’s, demos and classes on topics such as songwriting, composing, producing and the music industry. This year, Northern California Women’s Music Festival Board member and LA Award Winning Songwriter, Marirose Powell was there.  I caught up with her upon her return to find out more about the Expo. SoundGirls.Org Sound Camp for Girls – Seeks Donations

SoundGirls.Org is very excited to be developing a camp program that will introduce young women to live sound. The pilot camp will take place take place July 27 – August 2, in Modesto, California, and is sponsored by The Northern California Women’s Music Festival. The program will cover the basics of live sound, careers available, skills needed, and tips for starting out in the industry. The program will end with a live event run by the girls.

SoundGirls.Org is currently seeking donations for the girls to put together their own tool-kits. We are hoping to be able to put together 35 – 40 tool-kits. If you can donate or secure donations of the items – please contact Karrie at soundgirls.org@gmail.com.

We are also seeking a donation to print A Girls Guide to Doing Sound, a guidebook we have created for the girls. In the future we hope to seek funding to bring the program to more underserved communities.To help us get this program off the ground – Please consider making a donation or purchasing a t-shirt. All proceeds are to offset travel costs to provide this program.
